Meet the Mills Family

Ranchers Best Beef LLC was established in 2008 by Shawn and Dana Mills of rural Moline, KS. They ranch in Elk, Greenwood and Chautauqua counties. They have one little cowboy named T.J., who was born in 2007.
Shawn and Dana both grew up as farm kids in Southeast Kansas with a strong interest in raising cattle. They come from families that have a history of farming and ranching for at least five generations back. And, they both grew up on horseback, checking cows and mending fences!
Dana followed her pursuit of agriculture to Kansas State University and earned a BS from the College of Ag in Meat Science. Shawn's formal education in ag began at North Central Kansas VoTech in Beloit, KS, where he studied production ag. He then moved on to Butler County Community College where he earned an associate's degree in Animal Science and became involved with student teaching. He has also completed the Graham School of Beef Reproduction at Garnett, KS.
Dana's involvement in the cattle industry has included managing a cattle herd with her dad at Robison Farms, in Greenwood County. In the late 1990's, they began crossing their mostly crossbred/Brangus based herd to registered Maine Anjou genetics. They shifted to a black hided herd of mostly MaineTainer and high percentage Maine Anjou cattle. Shawn and his father, together at Mills Ranch, raised a predominantly black hided, Angus influenced herd.
As Shawn and Dana pursue their home-raised beef sales business together, they hope to bring out the best from both the Angus and Maine Anjou genetics and cross the two for hybrid vigor and growth. Both breeds are known to have outstanding flavor, marbling, and tenderness. Robison Farms has even garnered several awards in the Maine Anjou feed trial becuase of outstanding carcass characteristics.
In Shawn and Dana's home-raised beef program, they know the genetic make-up of each of their calves, the health program of each animal, and the processing data on each carcass. They will be able to answer any question that a consumer might have about the cut of meat they buy--from how it was raised to how to best prepare it.
Ranchers Best Beef LLC also works closely with other like-minded producers in Southeast Kansas to be able to provide a continous supply of quality beef--anytime of year.
Shawn and Dana's education, experience and background position them as unique experts in the beef business.
